About the Exhibition

The Irene Carlson Gallery of Photography is proud to present Light, Shadow, and Legacy, an exhibition celebrating the creative achievements of the University of La Verne’s photo department alumni. In coordination with the University’s 2025 Homecoming festivities, Light, Shadow, and Legacy highlights the breadth and depth of artistic voices that have emerged from the University’s photography program. Featuring work by alumni across multiple generations, the exhibition explores how photography captures both the tangible and the ephemeral — moments of light and darkness, memory and imagination, presence and absence. Together, these works reflect the enduring legacy of La Verne’s photographic community. Photography, at its core, is about light and shadow. Our alumni extend this dialogue through their own lived experiences, reminding us how images carry forward personal histories, social narratives, and creative innovation. This exhibition is both a celebration of their artistry and a testament to the program’s legacy.
