My Research Interests
I have done research on gender, socialization, development, and migration in Africa; on health and aging issues in California; and on African, Indian and Pacific Islander diasporas in North America. I also have an interest in food systems diversity. For four summers, I have taught medical anthropology and visual anthropology in India with the Himalayan Health Exchange’s anthropology expedition field school. I have been a board member and president of the Southwestern Anthropological Association and I write a quarterly column on museums and exhibitions for their newsletter. I have also been active with the Society for Urban, National and Transnational/Global Anthropology section of the American Anthropological Association; and I have been involved with the Applied Anthropology and Tourism interest group of the Society for Applied Anthropology.
