Placement and GE Requirements

All incoming first year students are placed by the Office of Academic Advising, based on recommendations set by the Writing Program, into a first semester Writing course. There are two ways that students get placed in writing courses, typically through completing the directed self-placement activity online but possibly via standardized test scores (SAT or ACT).

The Writing Program offers the primary courses to satisfy General Education (GE) writing requirements: RCS 110 for the LVWA GE requirement and RCS 111 for the LVWB requirement. Honors students will take HONR 111 to satisfy LVWB, which is taught by the Writing Program.
