Georgij Paro

Georgij is an international theatre director, former Intendent of the Croatian National Theatre in Zagreb. His education includes the study of philosophy at the Faculty of Philosophy and an MFA at the Academy of Dramatic Arts, both at the University of Zagreb. He is a tenured professor at the University of Zagreb. In addition, Mr. Paro has lectured and has been professor-in-residence, director and workshop conductor at several American universities (Kansas University, University of California – Santa Barbara and San Diego, as well as Pomona College). Presently, he is a senior adjunct professor at the University of La Verne in Southern California. He has directed more than 200 performances and often dramatized prose for the stage. His critical works and essays were published in four books (From My Experience [1981], Made in USA [1980], Theatralia Disjecta[1995] and Conversation with Stjepan Miletic [1999]) and in different theatre magazines and literary revues. For the artistic achievements of his theatrical work, Georgij has received many prizes and awards. The workshop he conducted in 1996, with students from La Verne and the Zagreb Academy, was the recipient of a special prize at the Split Summer Festival, which is on display in the Dailey Theatre Greenroom.
