Closed, but we’ll re-<\/strong>open in April!<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n

(Please note that our usual fee ($2) for standard submissions exists to ensure that all our authors get paid (no less than $40)).<\/p>\n

The Basics<\/strong><\/h2>\n
    \n
  • Our normal open reading periods are April-early September and December-early February (with free submission windows in early May and December).<\/li>\n
  • Contest submissions are generally Sept-November.<\/li>\n
  • We publish contemporary literary fiction, non-fiction, hybrid, and poetry.<\/li>\n
  • (Literary does not imply ‘realism’ or that we won’t happily consider genre-based work.)<\/li>\n
  • Never previously published.<\/li>\n
  • Submissions: one prose piece at a time (up to three flash pieces), and up to four poems.<\/li>\n
  • Fiction: we\u2019ll happily consider longer pieces, but we rarely go beyond 5000 words.<\/li>\n
  • We nominate what we consider our strongest works for inclusion in the Pushcart Prize anthology.<\/li>\n
  • Authors receive free contributor copies and a discount on additional copies.<\/li>\n
  • We receive first North American Serial rights; after, all rights revert to author (online samples are only put up with author permission).<\/li>\n
  • We only accept submissions via our online system; snail-mail submissions will be recycled.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

    We usually take 3-6 months (sometimes longer, sorry!) in responding to submissions, but we give everything a good read. For submissions we\u2019re using Submittable \u2014 thanks to the makers there and their great system.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
