{"id":14,"date":"2017-11-12T14:48:58","date_gmt":"2017-11-12T22:48:58","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/artsci.laverne.edu\/creative-writing\/?page_id=14"},"modified":"2024-03-20T11:29:20","modified_gmt":"2024-03-20T18:29:20","slug":"course-rotation","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/artsci.laverne.edu\/creative-writing\/course-rotation\/","title":{"rendered":"Course Rotation"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>Fall 2024<\/h2>\n<p>In the fall, we&#8217;ll offer five excellent courses:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>CWRT 201<\/strong> (FLEX): <em>Introduction to Creative Writing<\/em>, our fun introduction to contemporary literature.<\/li>\n<li><strong>CWRT 305<\/strong>: <em>Literary Magazine Publishing<\/em> (in which students serve as editorial staffers on our national literary journal,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/artsci.laverne.edu\/prism\"><em>Prism Review<\/em><\/a>);<\/li>\n<li><strong>CWRT 304<\/strong>: <em>Advanced Fiction Writing<\/em>, in which students immerse themselves in the craft of fiction (reading a variety of contemporary and classical works, including authors such as Aimee Bender, Allison Wyss, Ted Chang, and more);<\/li>\n<li><strong>CWRT 336<\/strong>: <em>Latinx: The Magical and the Real;<\/em><\/li>\n<li>and <strong>CWRT 350<\/strong> (online):<em> Building a Novel<\/em>, in which students study and create their own large-form narratives.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>January 2025<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li><b>CWRT 309<\/b>: <em>Advanced Writing Workshop<\/em>. The focus in this class is entirely on student work.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Spring 2025<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>CWRT 200<\/strong>: <em>Life of the Artist;<\/em><\/li>\n<li><strong>CWRT 204<\/strong>: <em>Intro to Prose Writing<\/em> (counts as LVWB\/RCS 111): in this class, students will learn and apply academic research skills toward creative original works of fiction and non-fiction; and<\/li>\n<li><strong>CWRT 303<\/strong>: <em>Poetry Writing<\/em>, in which students immerse themselves in the craft of writing poetry, and<\/li>\n<li><strong>CWRT 307<\/strong>: <em>Special Topics<\/em> (focus tbd).<\/li>\n<li><strong>(in spring, CWRT 305<\/strong>:\u00a0<em>Literary Magazine Publishing<\/em> will be offered as a directed study option for majors and minors.<em>)<\/em><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>As needed<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>For Junior majors and minors: we offer C<strong>WRT 390<\/strong>: <em>Great Author Immersion<\/em>, in which students choose a celebrated contemporary literary author, and both critically engage in and creatively write within the style of at least four of the author\u2019s works.<\/p>\n<p>For Senior minors and majors: we offer C<strong>WRT 499<\/strong>: <em><a href=\"https:\/\/artsci.laverne.edu\/creative-writing\/senior-project\/\">Senior Project<\/a><\/em>, in which students create their culminating creative theses through slow revision of their already-written creative works and through creations of new ones.
